Safety and Risk Management in the Mineral Processing Industry

Safety is an area where mining companies can and should collaborate. This workshop will examine core principles and concepts of Safety Risk Management for the mineral processing industry. Hazards, unwanted events, risks and controls will be clearly defined and discussed. A benchmarked model of the risk management process and a layered approach to applying risk assessment at a site level will be presented, discussed and analysed through case studies, examples and exercises. Finally, the risk management process will be explained and discussed within the context of a safety maturity journey.

The workshop will challenge traditional thinking about risk and safety, and practical tools to enable participants to make better decisions about safety risks in their operations and disciplines.

The workshop will be based on the core principles contained in the Global Minerals Industry Risk Management (GMIRM) course, which was developed by the University of Queensland.  This course is the foundation for the internationally award winning Anglo American SRMP program.
